Retiring from Germany
Retiring in the Philippines from Germany
Many German retirees live in the Philippines. This guide explains what happens to your pension and your health and long-term care insurance when you live here, and what care at Bambu Harmony Living in Tanauan City, Batangas costs in euros.
Your German pension in the Philippines
The Deutsche Rentenversicherung pays pensions abroad, including to the Philippines; in some cases payment can be limited. Germany and the Philippines have a social security agreement: periods in both countries are added together, and each country pays its own part. Tell the Deutsche Rentenversicherung before you move.
Health and long-term care insurance stop
If you live in the Philippines, German statutory health and long-term care insurance (Kranken- und Pflegeversicherung) do not cover you, even if your only pension is German. Ask your Krankenkasse before you move, and plan for health insurance that covers you in the Philippines.
Getting here from Germany
Flights from Frankfurt or Munich to Manila connect once, through the Middle East or an Asian hub, and take about 15 to 17 hours in total. Bambu Harmony Living is about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Manila’s NAIA airport.
